I am Karen Franco, otherwise known as Jacob’s mom. Children’s books are an important part of a child’s development. That’s where my son learned his colors, his shapes, animal sounds and just his favorite things. Books help parents and children bond. My son loved being read to and he always had his special “go to book.” Kids enjoy that quiet time to talk, to learn and to grow. My children’s book, “Just Hold My Hand,” was the appropriate way to explain to children about my son’s life through his experiences and his challenges as a boy with special needs. My book teaches patience, understanding and most of all acceptance of those who may be a little different. Another unique quality of my book is that my illustrator Gabbie Jensen was only 11 when she did all my drawings. She was able to capture all of Jacob’s emotions perfectly. Gabbie’s little brother has Down’s Syndrome, so our partnership was meant to be.
